About Telstra Child Flight

By attending Wine Women & Shoes as an exhibitor or visitor, you will be helping that all children and babies in NSW and the ACT have access to emergency medical care if and when they need it.

Telstra Child Flight was established in 1989 to provide dedicated, emergency intensive care transportation for babies and children in NSW and ACT.

One in every 50 babies born in the state, and over 550 children (up to the age of 15) require emergency medical retrieval each year. This involves sending expert medical teams anywhere in NSW to resuscitate, stabilise and then transport critically ill babies and children to one of only nine specialist hospitals able to offer the intensive care they need.

Telstra Child Flight is always ready – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – to carry an   emergency, intensive care team to any part of the state in the fastest possible way – by helicopter. Celebrating twenty years of operation this year, Telstra Child Flight has transported over 6,600 children in NSW and the ACT. Although each mission costs Telstra Child Flight between $8,000 and $16,000, the service is free to those who need it.

This unique, specialised service is partially funded through the NSW Department of Health through the Ambulance Service of NSW. Telstra Child Flight relies on the generosity of the public to raise the shortfall of some $2 million – both from community donations and corporate partnerships – to continue its vital work and keep our helicopters in the air.

Telstra Child Flight is a registered charity, proudly sponsored by Telstra, Kennards Hire, Ron Crouch Transport, 2GB, George Patterson Y & R and MobileCorp.

Telstra Child Flight has a minimal staff made up of seven administrative, two self funded project coordinators and 10 pilots including a chief  pilot; with overall management by a volunteer Board elected by the organisation’s members.
